For the pie crust
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 150g butter in room temperature (not melted)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp sugar
- Salt for taste
- Water (as needed)
For the filling (you can choose whatever filling you love)
- 10 sausages cut into pieces (can just used cooked chicken / meat instead)
- 100g meat balls cut into pieces (optional)
- Some cauliflower chopped into pieces (add any veggie you like or skip the step)
- 1 big onion chopped
- 1 big tomato chopped
- 2 green chilli chopped
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- Salt for taste
- 1 tsp chili flakes
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 soup cube (optional)
- 1 cup fresh milk
- 2 tsp flour
For the crust
First, you gotta make the dough for the pie.
Add all the ingredients mentioned above and make a fine dough and let it rest until the filling is prepped up.
Also make sure to preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius (gas mark 6-7)!
* don’t add much water as the flour incorporated with egg and butter itself will be pretty much moisture enough to knead. Add lil water if needed. If you had added too much water or if the dough is sticky, add some flour lil by lil until you get the non-sticky dough.
For the filling
Sauté the onion, green chili and tomato. Add the cauliflower chunks, so it’ll be well cooked.
Once they are all well cooked, add salt, pepper, cumin powder, chili flakes, soup cube and mix well until the raw smell of the masala goes.
Add a lil more oil into the mixture and then add 2 tsp of flour into it, keep on mixing.
Add the milk lil by lil into the mixture and get the saucy consistency.
Add the chopped sausages/ cooked and chopped meat into it and mix well.
Once all the ingredients are well incorporated and the filling is thick and saucy, it’s time for you to get ready with the dough that’s resting.
Time to set up the pie
Knead the flour once more and divide it into 1:2 ratio. Smaller part for the top crust and the rest for the pot.
Get your baking tray ready and buttered up.
Flatten the dough and spread it in the tray, leaving approximately one inch height to the circumference.
Add the filling and level it up.
Flatten the rest of the dough and cut strips out and lay them the way you like. Here’s mine 😌
Make sure to brush up the pie with egg yolk once the setting is done. So that it’ll be golden-ed after baking.
Baked the pot pie for 20-30 mins in 180 degree or 6-7 gas mark. Once the crust is nice and gold, take it off the oven and serve it hot hot!
Cut it patiently and carefully.
